GUWAHATI: On Monday 24 January the government of Assam through a modified SOP informed that all offline classes in various schools up to class 8 across the state will remain suspended until further notice.

The major decision by the Assam government came in concern of the prevailing COVID-19 situation in the state so that the spread of the infection can be prevented.

Until 30 January all the schools across the entire state with classes up to class 5 were directed to shut down for physical classes excluding the schools in the Guwahati metropolis.

However, the schools in Guwahati city are ordered to remain closed for students up to class 8.

The modified SOP (standard operating procedure) on Monday evening stated that physical instructions in all the schools up to class 8 in all the districts of Assam will remain suspended.

In the SOP the government instructed all the mentioned educational institutions to adopt the virtual mode of education and avoid physical classes until any further order was issued by the government.

The order further reads that the situation will be reviewed by authorities on a daily basis, adequate measures will be taken and in view of the covid situation, necessary instruction will be issued by the department of education.

The order strongly advised the schools to choose the option of quality virtual education to continue the learning process despite the closing of offline classes.

Notably, the offline classes for classes beyond class 8 in various schools across the state will be continued without any change.

It is informed that the students from class 9 to class 11 will be going to schools through rotation mode and they will be attaining physicals classes three days a week.

The students perusing education in engineering colleges, technical institutions and medical colleges across the state will be continuing their classes as usual and the same goes for the class 12 students.

The SOP reads that offline classes for classes and above will be allowed in all districts on the basis of alternative days as they will be attaining physical classes alternatively.

While in the case of undergraduate and postgraduate final year students of medical colleges and engineering colleges, the classes will be allowed physically only with students who are completely vaccinated.
